Ukraine Solidarity Campaign: Ukraine today is fighting for its existence and its future.
The sooner a just peace is established in Ukraine, the sooner the struggle for a better social future for the Ukrainian people will begin!
Thousands of lives and millions of broken destinies are the price that the people of Ukraine have already paid in the war with Russia and for the right to self-determination. Bloody battles with Russian invaders are underway in the regions bordering Russia and missiles even reach the cities in western Ukraine. Ukraine, as the poorest country in Europe, is experiencing a catastrophic decline in living standards as a result of the war: millions of people have lost their homes and some 50% of workers have lost their jobs.
Unfortunately, the aggressive war becomes a reason for making unfair decisions by the Ukrainian authorities who are under the influence of neoliberals and oligarchs. Having paid a huge price in the war, Ukrainians certainly will not want to tolerate the narrowing of social rights and guarantees at the time when the oligarchic elite unfairly owns vast fortunes.
A society weakened by war needs restoring more than ever. We believe that newly rebuilt cities can be supplied with affordable housing and environmentally friendly transport. We believe that all those in need can enjoy decent social security, education and medicine. We believe in a Ukraine run by the whole society, not a handful of oligarchs. To achieve this, Ukraine needs democratic socialism!
NGO “Social Movement” calls on everyone to make the end of the war in Ukraine a reality by:
writing off Ukraine’s external debts, confiscating the assets of oligarchs – Russian, Ukrainian and all other – and transferring it into collective ownership and management of workers;
free supply of modern weapons to Ukraine, in particular, air defense systems that would allow to minimize civilian casualties;
immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine within its 2013 borders and the most severe sanctions for Russia.
The sooner a just peace is established in Ukraine, the sooner the struggle for a better social future for the Ukrainian people will begin!
